Data Center
DEHN protects data centres

Keep the data flowing

Downtimes, damage and interruptions due to lightning and surges? No access to data or even data loss? A nightmare scenario for every operator and every data user.

Protect your data centre:

Powerful lightning and surge protection prevents costly damage and ensures constant data flow.

Data centres are the foundation of digitalisation. Whether it is social networks, medical care, media content, telecommunications or traffic control, today everything depends on a constant flow of data. The fault-free interplay of individual systems and sensitive components is a requirement for this.

How you reduce the risk

The threat posed by lightning and surges is often underestimated:

  • Fires can be started by lightning strikes.
  • Interconnected electrical systems can incur damage through surges.

The consequence: Repair costs, downtimes and claims for compensation.

Minimise risks – here's how

Integrate coordinated measures for lightning protection, surge protection, shielding and earthing in your safety concept.

Make use of a full-service provider: DEHN represents your one-stop shop.

Opt for certainty – for reliable operation, maximum availability and optimised efficiency.

Know the normative requirements

The standard DIN EN 50600 is of primary relevance for the planning and implementation of protection measures for data centres. In relation to lightning and surge protection, it refers to DIN EN 62305.

Design basis for lightning and surge protection

DIN EN 50600 is the first Europe-wide and thus transnational standard with an integrated approach providing comprehensive guidelines for the planning, construction and operation of a data centre.

It includes specifications for the planning of building installations, construction, electrical supply, air-conditioning and safety systems. The necessity of factoring in lightning protection measures is stipulated in part 2-2 "Power supply and distribution of data centre equipment and infrastructure".

Specifically, DIN EN 50600 refers here to the entire EN 62305 series of standards governing lightning protection. It constitutes the basis for the standard-compliant design and implementation of lightning and surge protection concepts as well as shielding measures.

DIN EN 62305 Part 2

Risk management

Step 1 is the risk analysis. This involves a risk assessment, including a classification into appropriate classes of LPS.

DIN EN 62305 Part 3

Physical damage to structures and life hazard.

In step 2, the parameters for the external lightning protection system and the implementation of planning for the external lightning protection are defined.

DIN EN 62305 Part 4

Protection of electrical and electronic systems

Step 3 involves the selection of individual measures for the protection of integrated electronic systems*.

* Examples of measures for the protection of integrated electronic systems:

  • Lightning protection zone concept
  • LEMP protection measures system
  • Earthing and equipotential bonding
  • Shielding concept for buildings and rooms
  • Cable routing and shielding
  • Coordinated surge protection
