Voltage Detectors

As you may know, employees are responsible for protecting the health and safety of their employees. Because of this, occupational health and safety regulations must be put in place, especially with electrical systems. When fixing a problem within an electrical system, power must be disconnected to the relevant part. This goes further than just disconnecting the main power, though. Reliable information is needed regarding the state of the installation before any work takes place, and measures to ensure against maloperation and malfunctions must also be taken. It is also important to protect against potential hazards from adjacent parts of the installation.

Electricians are familiar with these rules, and also understand that any precautions for safety that are taken are only as safe as the technologies being used.

Do not leave vital information to chance

Voltage detectors can be used to provide reliable and clear indications of the electrical safety for users. Both the test procedure and test results of the voltage detector must be reliable. Because of this, it is important to have an up to date voltage detector, as ones produced decades ago would be incapable of fulfilling current safety requirements. Switchgears of today also require much less space than the switchgears produced years ago, and therefore the safety requirements for the test equipment must be upgraded.  As setups increase in variety, the demands for the utilization of operational equipment have also increased.

Protection devices and facilities should be tailored to the systems they are suitable and designed for, featuring appropriate manufacturers names, specification of nominal voltage range, double triangle with standard with standard reference and double isolators. They should be inspected before every use to make sure they meet all of the necessary criteria. Even if the voltage detector meets the above parameters, frequency of applications and stressing by ambient conditions and transport should be considered to decide if it is capable of performing its duty.

We recommend that an in-service inspection of capacitive voltage detectors as required by the BGV A3 occur every six years.
